Gettin' Comfortable

So I'm just about all moved into my new room. I'm set and stacked up, and only have a few more adjustments to make before my room is a true bachelors pad. Got a futon on the way, and a TV commin in little over a week. I'm fucking stoaked.

Last night I was puttin up a shelf for my room when I stumbled into a new track by Lemaitre. These guys are impressing the shit out of me. Their new track, entitled 'Nishio,' is an electronic instrumental synth jam, with steady bass and good vibes. Check it:

This is a hazy post, I'm still gettin situated in my new room, but there's more to come soon. I'll be puttin up a party playlist soon that's sure to keep people booty bumpin' till the AM. Later.

New Stew

I recently had the pleasure of getting a chance meeting with the up an comming Ian Stewart. If you haven't heard of him, you probably should. A house/dubstep artist out of Wallingford, CT, his demeanor is up and at 'em with great taste and great sounds always on his mind. Studying music since he was 6, he finally decided to try his hand at mixing in 2005, and has been steadily gaining notice ever since. His climb began In 2006, after meeting DJ Alex Liberatore, owner of Dynamix Records L.L.C., at a house party. Having been getting after it for only 5 years now, his big spot came recently from a bumpin set at 'The Big Up' this summer (Big Up). Listen to it here. With jazz influence and classical study, he's got the foundation to make some noise in the dubstep scene. Here's my favorite mix of his so  far, a very enjoyable mix of stevie wonder's superstition:

More info on Stewart can be found on his page. Definitely try to keep an eye on this talent, it's worth your time.

Sugarpills

A few months back, Kids of 88 teased us with the release of 'just a little bit,' a sleezy but fun mix of dance and intrique. A little over a week ago (8/16/10), they released their anticipated album 'Sugarpills'. The New Zealand 'new wave/ electro' duo did not disapoint, releasing a susynct but diverse blend of sexy vibes and gestures. Kids, The self proclaimed "cross between a late 80s police drama intro theme and a sophisticated super hussy," deliver the dance basslines anticipated months ago. The breakthrough songs that delivered were 'Ribbons of Light,' My House,' and 'Everybody Knows,' with the closing song 'Downtown' recieving some noteriaty. However, my personal favorite is the simple but up-beat romantic buzz "San Fran." It delivers a steady vibe sure to bring good times and smiles. It can be found for your listening pleasure HERE.

Just for fun, the hit tracks from 'Sugarpills' are right here. Enjoyable dance tunes, but meant for only the right crowds.

Both "Ribbons of Light" and "My House" have a supper sleezy but tastefull vibe to them. Good fun to enjoy with a partner.

The other songs on the album that have recieved credit are "Downtown," a potentially fun pregame song meant for the night out down the town, and "Everybody Knows," a cute yet blatent inuendo for a good time. For more info on purchasing 'Sugarpills,' and more info on Kids of 88, check out their blog here. Also be sure to check out their summer hit "Just a Little Bit" if you have the time. (It's what set the tone for their release).

Summer Closing

As I prepare myself for the upcoming semester, I recap my summer music highlights. While packing up my bags I can't help but think of the amazing trip up to NY for Camp Bisco 9, and all the rediculous people we met at my 3rd camp bisco (Smokin' Joe... you were pretty awesome). I recall the trip down to philly to see sts9 and Lotus, and crashing the afterparty to witness my favorite show of the summer. Big Gigantic. These guys kick ass. I had checked them out at Bisco and had a great time, but among the other amazing talent (Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Tipper, ect..) My opinion towards them kindof blended into a giant opinion of the weekend.

However, seeing them late night in philly blew my mind. Big Gigantic is an all star show in a simple setup: Drummer (Jeremy Salken), Sax (Dominic Lalli), and a laptop with beats. What sets them apart from other shows of the summer, for me, was Lalli on the Sax. The blend of fresh beats, a steady percussion, and a filthy Sax makes for a completly unexpected surprise. Lalli will make you swirl with his funky instrumentals, as he sweats every drop for the crowd, bouncing back and forth between laptop and Sax. far and away my favorite show of the summer. Here's their big hit, a seemingly standard remix of the outplayed Aloe Blacc that will have you dancing your toes thin:

Their album "Fire It Up" is also a hell of a production worth checking out. Here are my two favorite Highlights from the album:

Big Gigantic - High Life by DJ Pandy

Big Gigantic - Polarize by AlwaysHustle

The song titles pretty much speak for themselve. Both songs are very smooth but bumpin tracks to enjoy. Also be sure to check out their upcoming album "A Place Behind the Moon," which comes out a week from today, 9/1/10. For more info you can check out their site here.

Jump-In

The dreaded First Post. I'm equally excited and terrified to slip into the world wide web of opinions and comments. But I'm happy to add my thought bubbles toward the ever expanding thoughts shared between knowldgeable and unknowing individuals. So here it goes:

Normally I have a hard time even putting a playlist on repeat. But a little over a week ago this tune hit the Hypem charts and I havent been able to put Lemaitre off. The simple but eclectic buzz it sends has become infectious, and I hope for the best with the norwegian duo.

Be sure to check out Primeval Atom and Unclouded Judgement as well: Primeval has a distinctly fun and pop-ish energy, whereas Unclouded contains an almost intriguing and hypnotic pulse. enjoy!
