A Little Bit 'o This, and A Little Bit 'a That

Kind of a mixed field of songs today. Hopefully there's a little bit of something for everyone. I'm going to try to give some sort of an order for these, but it may not make sense... we'll see.

I guess I'll start with the nice and light stuff. This song was recently in a Subaru commercial, Sean Hayes' 'Powerful Stuff,' off of the album 'Run Wolves Run.' It's sexy, sweet, and fun.

Powerful Stuff - Sean Hayes by lfbuccat

Next is the track people have been talking about for the past couple days, Bon Iver's 'Calgary.' With an almost ephemeral tone and a steady drum build, it delivers what Iver's fans have been looking for. If you dig this, check 'Skinny Love.'

Bon Iver - Calgary by indieistanbul

Moving to a little more paced song, but still gentle. Brasstronaut's 'Slow Knots' is beautiful and fun. I feel it complements the passed two tracks pretty well, it just has more tempo to it. Check out 'Hearts Trompet'  for another good track.

brasstronaut - slow knots by Covert PR

Steppin it up now, this track by 'Of Porcelain' is titled 'Signal the Captain.' For those who don't know, 'Of Porcelain' is also know as 'Ooah,' from 'The Glitch Mob.' He considers this project to be "music for the hopeless romantic." Check it out.

Of Porcelain - Signal The Captain by delidana45

I've got two more tracks left for you. Both are rap, but with very different samples. The first one I'm gona lay down features a very unexpected marriage: 'Tyler, The Creator' vs. 'Neutral Milk Hotel.' It fits ridiculously well considering how obscure the pairing is.

Communist Future (Neutral Milk Hotel vs. Tyler, The Creator) by Cyclops Rock

Finally, just a nice loud remix I ran into. 'Notorious B.I.G's classic track 'Gimme the Loot' is dubstepped by 'Superginger.' Really awesome. Couldn't help but post it when I heard it.

GLitcheD

I've been a fan of glitch-hop for a while now, but haven't taken the time to truly immerse myself into the vast pool of sounds coming from the field. Anyone who reads my stuff with any regularity knows that while I try to post on a little bit of everything, I have a strong preference for dubstep. I'm not sure how related the two sub-genres are, but I like to think of glitch-hop as the smooth cousin of dubstep. You know, the cousin that was always a little badass, but still took the time to get his degree in engineering, while simultaneously getting a culinary degree by mixing his crisp flavors. Glitch-hop is the cousin that was always cool as a cucumber, but dubstep was always a 'bad influence' on.

In the next couple of days I'm aiming to swim around in the pool of glitch-hop for some keepers to take home, but for now I'm gonna post on what I know works. I can't think of any better way to kick start this with a basic foundation of 'Pantyraid.'

Pantyraid - Get the Money

Pantyraid-Get The Money by nickoul90

Now I'm not exactly sure what separates mellow dubstep from glitch-hop, odds are that there isn't any real line between them right now. But regardless, 'Get the Money' is exactly what I think of as glitch-hop. A fluid mix of trip-hop and modulated bass, but with a sexy undertone. Filthy, yet refined. The badass cousin with his priorities.

Pantyraid - Beba

Pantyraid - Beba (Original Mix) by sound-food.blogspot.com

Once again, this track is crisp as a Pringle, but it's also wobbly as John Daily at the 19th hole. It starts off so innocent, and then creeps into a modulation waltz.
Before I forget, here's a brief background: 'Pantyraid' is the dual headed monster of 'MartyParty' and 'Ooah,' (maybe you've heard of them, haha). Based in LA, the two producers came together to write melodic flows with electronic character. Their website. Explore them, and try to get to one of their shows.

I can't have a post on glitch-hop without 'The Glitch Mob.' It may be a little too easy, but they're dope, so listen. They recently (~ a month ago) released their album 'Drink the Sea' onto soundcloud (original release was May 2010), so I have perfect opportunity to post.

The Glitch Mob - Bad Wings

Bad Wings - DRINK THE SEA by The Glitch Mob

An easy and serene approach, 'Bad Wings' lulls you away from the moment. Melodic interjections balance with a deep drumline to create a great listen. This a personal favorite for long car rides or just hanging out, let it take you away.

The Glitch Mob - How To Be Eaten By A Woman

How To Be Eaten By A Woman - DRINK THE SEA by The Glitch Mob

The track has a steady build with a few distinct peaks, each of which is separated by a low driving pulse to keep your ears moving. My personal favorite track on the LP, I love the way it builds, dismantles and then rebuilds itself (Check the kick at ~4:26). Other tracks to check out include 'Fortune Days,' 'We Swarm,' and the well known 'Drive It Like you Stole It.' Of course, the whole LP should be check out, but that goes without saying. Their site, with the LP.

As a final track, I'm gona throw down 'Boreta' - 'Bubblin' in the Cut'. It's more eclectic than the previous 4 tracks, and definitely more in your face, but I wouldn't consider it full fledged dubstep. Check it.

Fluxus

Back in the Rhythm

Here's a few songs I've been Jamming to lately. As summer approaches us all, I'm trying to get back in the swing of posting frequently. So here it is.

You may have heard this tune on a Heineken commercial lately. It's a sweet little tune that gets you going. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Golden Age

I was getting down to this song last night with a couple of buddies. It's another little groove that's infectious, albeit simple. Stairway to Hip-Hop remixed by Gramatik

Finally some dubstep. The Temper Trap's sexy 'love lost' song is remixed by adventure club to help you get down.

First Mix

So I made this mix the other day. Was just messing around with my free time, and I think it came out pretty damn decent. There's a lot of changes, and a lot of artists. Dig it.

It's Friday. Lets Party.

Dubstep Friday
I've spent the past couple of days catching up on some dub I've missed out on. Scanning through the past year of a couple heavy hitting dubsteppers has been AWESOME. I found a bunch of tracks I didn't know even existed that kicked my ass. So hope that your friends love dubstep as much as I do, crank the volume and enjoy. Most of these won't be downloadable, but it don't matter. It's Friday, put your party shoes on and go crazy to these beats. A lot of Bassnectar, some Zed's Dead, and a couple sick mixes. Lets have some fun.

Barbra Stresisand (LOVE THY BROTHER REMIX x BASSNECTAR) - Duck Sauce by Alyyyy

Hold On To Your 808 (Rusko vs. Bassnectar) (Ft. Mighty High Coup) by Vizzice

Eyes On Fire (Zeds Dead Remix) - Blue Foundation by TheSaharaTent.com

Stayin' Alive (Teddybears Remix) (102bpm) by bailinho

Herr Styler - Jack (Fare Soldi Jackette remix) by Herr Styler

I can't believe how well the "Hold on to your 808" track works, I would've never seen those two blended to perfection. I guess the last two tracks aren't really dubstep, but they're fucking awesome, so I don't care. It's Friday, I'ma do what I want.

Phantogram

Phantogram's Sarah Barthel

Just a couple tracks today, a select few songs that I've been hung on and felt the need to post. There's a small emphasis on Phantogram, as a buddy recently reminded me of how sick they are. Other than that, no particular emphasis. Listen and learn.

PL Unreleased 2010

Got a couple remixes here from the Denver DJ extraordinaire Prettly Lights. These are from his New Years Eve run in Chicago a little over a month ago he just released them. Quintisential Pretty Lights here, make sure you check them all out. The Pink Floyd "Time" remix seems to cut off quickly, but it's still probably my favorite from the set. Also be sure to check the Steve Miller Band rework and the Kanye remix, both are AWESOME. As always from Pretty Lights, all these tracks can be pulled from his website here. Enjoy:

Synthetic Simplicity

Here are a couple songs that I've been hooked on lately. Their simple approach in a modern day music scene filled with ecclectic beats and bumping whomps brings a welcome release. The theme for this post is simple songs with synth or creativity. For those who don't know, if you like any of these, just click on the little downward arrow on the right of the track to Download. Check 'em.

This track just melts like... well... "Hot Sugar." The song its titled 'The Seagul,' and is nothing short of hypnotic and relaxing, it simply soothes the stresses of the day.

The Seagull by Hot Sugar

The sounds from this track are a little more synthetic, but just as chill. Swim's "Wishing Wars" is smooth and serene, and a nice complement to the 'the seagul.'

Wishing Wars- Swim by SFMO Blog

Pogo, the artist of this next track, is seriously creative. He's usually working for Disney, laying down track's for their animated films. He does this type of stuff on the side, and it blends with an animated flavor. Titled "Wishery"

Pogo - Wishery by fadedglamourblog

This track is straight sexy, at least in my own mind. The original (by Bon Iver) is sweet and sexy in it of itself, but the remix by Das Kapital makes it pop. Crisp as a pringle, but smooth as a yogurt. "Skinny Love."

Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub) by j.wilson

I'm gona cut if off here with Cult's "Go Outside." With the blizzard we're currently weathering here in Hamilton, it's a nice reminder of good times outside. Stoaked for the first snow day. Almost a childish feel, the track is a smile in it of itself.

If you like these type of tracks then give me a hollar, got a bunch of them to share for those who enjoy

Happy New Year, Ya Filthy Animal!

The past month and a half has flown by, as did most of 2010. But just before Chritmas I recieved this memo from Soundcloud:

"Hi Insidewantsout,

We have been notified that the upload "Tosca - Suzuki":

might be infringing the original rightsholder's copyright and could potentially be breaching the SoundCloud terms of service. Your upload is currently blocked.

If this block was triggered by mistake and you have the explicit permission from the rightsholder to use, upload and distribute this content, please submit a detailed explanation by clicking the following link: (removed link for my own sake)

Thanks,

The SoundCloud team"

As a result, I've been inspired to post more music, despite being served. So, as all the 'Year in Review' material continues to come out, it's only warrented that I create my own best of 2010 list. So here it is, my 10 favorite songs from 2010. (Mind you, these are biased favorites, not publicly unanimous top songs or indie topers... Furthermore their aren't necessarily in order, and there were alot of other songs I wanted to throw in). Enjoy

10. Blitzen Trapper - The Man Who Would Speak True
Beatiful. I could argure Blitzen Trapper's story telling is reminiscent of Bob Dylan (dare I say that?). Their album 'Destroyer of the Void' dropped on June 8th, and didn't disapoint. Check it out if you like the feel.

9. Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks
I'm pretty sure this dropped in 2k10. The serene smooth beats and hypnotic whistle sell it. Been listening to this song for the past 7 months and I still don't know what it's about, but it's sexy.

Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks by music-space

8. The Black Keys - Tighten Up
First heard this song on FIFA 11, haha, but it's decidedly a favorite of the year. New age Bluesy, Jazzy, love song. Thats kind of the best way I can describe it.

The Black Keys - Tighten Up by MusicForBears

7. Caribou - Odessa
Anyone who knows this song loves it. Well, at least I think they do. Interestingly, it's also on the FIFA 11 soundtrack, but that's not why we love it. The song attacks you and then lulls you in with it's melodic lyrics. check it.

Caribou - Odessa by musicmule

6. Crystal Castles - Empathy
Not everyone can relate to Crystal Castles, as their experimental tracks can be a lot to absorb at once (Z). But theres no doubt Castles have a bunch of really tasty songs. Here's one of them:

Crystal Castles - Empathy by drinknfuck

5. Big Gigantic - Step Up
And get down. SO much fun to see, just a sax, a drummer, and a set of mixed beats. Hard to chose a favorite song from the album "A Place Behind the Moon," but it's either this or Driftin. Here's a link to listen and DL to the whole album, I'm pretty sure they give it away on their website also, so check it.

4. Cee Lo Green - Fuck You
Maybe a bit of a cop-out, but I love this song. There have been a shit ton of remixes made for it, but the original is still the best.

Cee-Lo Green - Fuck You by pordain

3. LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean
Can't get enough of this song, it's variation of tone and it's digable drops hook me. Besides, LCD Soundsystem is the shit! Their on their own lable (Jame's Murphy's DFA), so that's pretty f'in cool. They were also maybe my favorite show of the year, so explore them.

LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean by Ernesto Coss

2. Bassnectar - The 808 Track
How could this be a Insidewantsout top ten list without some filth? Had a hard time between this and "Wildstyle Method," but in the end I had to go with what pops. Warning: not for the feignt of heart, this song has been known to cause ear damage... at least I bet it has.

The 808 Track (ft. Mighty High Coup) by chickpea

1. Teen Daze - Wet Hair (Japandroids original)
This was an almost impossible decision. Well, really it was almost random. There's too much I could have put at number 1, so I just went with basically a coin toss. That being said, even though it's a remix, it's my favorite of 2010. Fits all my moods, and is counterintuitively tasty.

Teen Daze - Wet Hair by Deuce B

Holiday Bonus: Christmas Dub
I'll give one more track as a Holiday bonus. I really wanted to post this before Christmas, but it's a little to late for that. The track makes me think of 2 Santa's fighting for Christmas supremecy, Good vs. Evil... with lazer shooting reigndeer. Tell me it doesn't. It's kind of erie, but that's part of it's flavor:
